A matter of life and death

Although there have been many occasions when I would like to hide under the duvet for a few years, I would never end my own life. Quite frankly, I enjoy it too much.

Sure there might be times when I'm miserable but that just makes the good times better. I try to see something fun or beautiful in the world around me and it usually works out ok.

Right, for the next question I have to write 30 interesting facts about myself which is going to take a long time to put together. Not because there are so many interesting facts to choose from but rather the opposite. I really struggle to find anything interesting to say about myself.

This should be erm....interesting!

Holier than thou?

After a short interlude brought about by technical difficulties (how can I not get a signal from the router when I'm sitting next to the damn thing??) I'm ready to catch up on the 30 day challenge.

So, question 4, my views on religion...hmm...bit of a toughie this one.

I was brought up from around the age of 10 at any rate, as a member of the Church of England. I am indeed a baptised and confirmed Christian. Or at least I used to be. The trouble is I think too much and a lot of what is preached is not practised and definitely doesn't sit well with my modern sensibilities and self-worth as a female. I think there is a lot of hypocrisy within the so-called Christian community and I'd rather not be a part of that.

Having said that, I'm aware that our basic laws are built on Christian principles and I'm glad they are because for the most part they make sense and help to build a responsible community.

I think it's incredibly disappointing when religion is used as an excuse for violence, crime and hatred. Northern Ireland and the Middle East are still caught up in sectarian violence in the name of religion when it's really all about greedy men trying to retain power and make money. If half the people who claim to hold a faith actually followed the tenets of that faith then this world would be a much better place to live.

Sex and drugs and rock 'n' roll...

..well drugs and alcohol at any rate.

I guess when it comes to drugs I'm pretty much a  liberal in that I think if you want to take drugs, then that's your business. However, I also think that everyone should fulfil their potential to be a useful member of society. If you can work to pay for your drug habit then fair enough, but if your drug habit starts to have an impact on society through theft and violence and use of medical resources, then you need to give it up. And let's face it, that's when the trouble starts so why bother in the first place? I've got better things to do with my time and money.

As for alcohol, I enjoy a glass of wine as much as the next person and I probably drink a bit more than is good for me but the sight of people drunk and vomiting in the street saddens me. I've been pretty drunk on nights out myself when younger but there was always one member of the group who would be reasonably sober and get us all home safely. So again, it's all about personal responsibility. If you want a drink out, you shouldn't need an ambulance to get home and your drinking shouldn't impact on society.

2021 and all that.

So, and on to question 2 - where would you like to be in 10 years' time?

Well, I've never been one to plan my future particularly and I certainly don't have a 10 year plan! I hope I will still be living in Essex although preferably in a house with a garden. It seems somewhat perverse to live in the driest county in the UK and not have a garden in which to enjoy the sunshine.

I plan to be with my current partner still. He seems worth the effort to keep around and my little new born baby will be a massive 10 years old and waiting to go to high school.

Professionally.... who knows? Possibly still in the same job or certainly at a similar managerial level. Although I think 10 years is an awfully long time to be in the same job, I can't see me being promoted up the greasy pole any time soon. It would be fabulous if Dave could be supporting the entire family with his photography, doing the job he loves.

A swift kick up the arse.

I know my blog seems to have shuffled off its mortal coil but it hasn't disappeared totally into the ether. I considered posting my thoughts and musings a few times but everything seemed too personal to share. As much as I might treat this like the confessional at times, I am aware that other people can read it and this threat of readership made me hesitate.

However, I am now on maternity leave and once I have caught up with the backlog of cleaning and domestic duties (pauses to recover from hysterical laughter), I am hoping I will have a little time on my hands whilst my precious Alys is sleeping. I could use this time to become a wife of the Stepford variety but I always leaned towards slovenly so instead I will blog.

Maybe.

I saw the above list of questions on someone else's blog and thought it would be a useful tool to kick start my daily blog and save me wittering on about how fabulous my baby is. So at first glance I thought question number 1 would be difficult to answer but maybe it's just difficult to share.

I'm with a guy I never thought I'd meet at a time I never expected to meet anyone and it feels like we were meant to be together. I'm not saying it's been easy but we've got through difficult situations and I feel we can continue to be an amazing team. I'm so comfortable and trusting in the relationship that I had no qualms suggesting we become three. The birth of our baby has been fantastic and I love seeing how our family dynamic is shaping up. Here's to a long and happy future together.
